Over the weeks we have been putting together an electronics lab which is a section of the main shed at the football club.
It started with a partition wall using the original roofing sheets supplied with the shed. George brought in some old kitchen cupboards and then we began kitting it out.
We now have our own oscilloscope, bench power supply, waveform generator, component checker, raspberry pie, arduino and a host of components.
Next we decided to power the lab section with solar power, which is working out just great, with no noisy generator pounding in our heads while we try to think.

The Evil Genius series has some great ideas, unfortunately the books are a bit expensive. However, some evil genius has put several of them online as pdf’s. I am not condoning this, if I had the money I would buy them all. I have bought a few but as the few I have bought were after reading the pdf I think we are not doing the authors a dis–service, on the contrary we are promoting their books. I have also just found out that some of these books are in the Library system. So enough of me assuaging my guilt lets get on with the links. I hope you feel inspired and if you live in the area you will come along and share your enthusiasm.

So what is physical computing? Physical computing, in the broadest sense, means building interactive physical systems by the use of software and hardware that can sense and respond to the analog world. In practical use, the term most often describes handmade art, design or DIY hobby projects that use sensors and micro-controllers to translate analog input to a software system, and/or control electro-mechanical devices such as motors, servos, lighting or other hardware.
Prototyping will be the beginning using the Arduino micro-controller connected to a computer this combines the two practical disciplines of electronics and programming. Design follows function.
You would not ask an architect to design you a building without telling them what it was to be used for, how many rooms you wanted and so on. The reason I mention this is that many people who come to me for a website have a wonderful idea for styles, graphics and must have the colours just right. My response is I build websites not pictures, if the look of the site is the main focus or in some case the only focus then I would imagine you are building a website for you and your Mother, because chances are they are the only people who will stop by and admire it.
